Day One: We start our tour of Northeast Michigan lighthouses with a quick stop in the- City of Standish at the Historic Train Depot built in 1889
and considered a classic piece of Architecture that is on the National Registry of Historic Places. Also, this morning we will tour a Cheese and Candy Factory on our way to Alpena Michigan w-here we will vis
it the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center and the Shipwreck Museum. After Lunch at the new brewery in Alpena we will tour two lighthouses 20 miles to the north check in to our Hotel in Alpena before heading to Thunder Bay Resort where we will enjoy an exciting carriage ride over the Thunder Bay River and thru 300 acres of forest viewing Elk on our way to the Antler Lodge where a five course Gourmet Dinner will be served along with various wines made from fruits grown in Northeast Michigan's own "Stoney Acres Winery".
Day Two: After Breakfast a continental breakfast we travel Highway U.S.
23 along Lake Huron to Sturgeon Pt. located thirty miles to the
South for another lighthouse tour. Continuing south 25 miles to the Oscoda, home to the author of the Famous Paul Bunyan Tales. The popularization of the myth of Paul Bunyan can be traced back to James MacGillivray, an itinerant newspaper reporter who wrote the first Paul Bunyan article for the Oscoda (MI) News in 1906. Mr. MacGillivray was a native of Oscoda and is buried there. After touring the Yankee Air Museum in Oscoda at Wurtsmith Air Base we will enjoy lunch in the Cabernet Room at Wiltse's Brew Pub and Family Restaurant before Heading onto
Michigan's only 22 mile stretch of Federally Designated Scenic Highway where we will visit Lumberman' s Monument and view an active Bald Eagles nest. Finally, we will enjoy another exceptional Dinner aboard the Au Sable River Queen Paddle Boat while cruising along the forested backwaters of the Mighty Au Sable River. Our day will end when we arrive back at our motel located on the sandy shores of Lake Huron.
Day Three: We have three lighthouses to visit today. Our first stop is only 14 miles
to Tawas Pt. Lighthouse where one can spend a whole day enjoying the sandy beach or birdwatching on this famous point that is also a state Park. Then to Downtown East Tawas for several hours of leisurely shopping and lunch within full view of the Tawas
Bay. Another 17 milessouth takes us to the Port Town of Au Gres MI where we will board the passenger ferryboat 'NorthStar' for the 12 mile trip to Historic big Charity Island- a 300 acre Federal wildlife Sanctuary. After a very excellent dinner served on the porch and a tour of the home we will enjoy the sunset on the boat ride back along with a very fine fruit topped cheesecake dessert with hot coffee (video 300Kbps).
Day four: A continental breakfast and then we are on our way to Soaring Eagle Casino in Mt. Pleasant, MI 65 miles away for a couple hours of gaming and lunch before we depart on our final leg of our journey back home.
